PHOTOS BY ENDEL UIGA AT WAYNE DUMONT JR. BUILDING The Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission is pleased to announce a one person show of Endel Uiga’s original photographs. The show comprises fifty-seven images and spans eighty-five years of photography, from glass plates to abstract digital imagery. The show will be at the Warren County Administration Building on Rt. 519 in Belvidere through mid-September, 2012. Endel Uiga, an Estonian native, started taking pictures eighty five years ago when he was ten. His camera was a small black box that had to be loaded in the dark with a glass film. The glass film had to be developed using a candle lantern with a red window and printed in a bright daylight on a direct printout paper. The result was a beautiful sepia print that lasted. It took several years before roll film appeared and 35 mm photography took over. Having a serious interest in photography, Endel kept up with the technology attending many courses and classes, one with Ansel Adams, that gave him insight that he used when teaching photographic technique at the college level. The last century brought several changes into visual arts and photography: abstract art and digital photography appeared. Since Endel’s background was technical (Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering), he launched with full enthusiasm into the new technology. Using advanced digital applications he started manipulating ordinary photos to a degree that was never possible in the darkroom, creating images which he calls “Mindscapes”. They are abstract shapes that, as Rorschach Inkblots, will cause viewers to envision different and some times pleasant imaginations. The Wayne Dumont Jr. Administration Hall Gallery, on Route 519 south in Belvidere, is open to the public during regular business hours during weekdays and is an ADA accessible location. The Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission sponsors this photo show with support from the Warren County Freeholders, and is funded in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
